CANON CITY, Colo. — Thousands of bees have swarmed a neighborhood in Canon City after a large hive was accidentally cut open by tree trimmers, the Fremont County’s Sheriff’s Office said.

Beekeepers are trying to calm the insects before relocating them from North 15th Street.

Tree trimmer Jason Sharp told KKTV he and other members of the crew were stung 15 to 20 times each.

The sheriff’s office is advising people who are allergic to bees to avoid the area.
