DENVER -- In less than two weeks, the vacant University of Colorado Health Sciences Center near East Ninth Avenue and Colorado Boulevard will be a pile of rubble.
Demolition for the long-vacant complex is scheduled for Aug. 29. People who live near the complex got briefed about the plans Monday and what to expect when the implosion takes place.
It will shut down roads in the area for several hours. Officials stressed the best way to see the implosion is on TV and not on the street.
The expectation is the implosion will take place at 8 a.m. and by noon, things will start to reopen.
After cleanup of the debris, work will begin on a $419 million redevelopment project that will include residential, retail establishments, offices and open space.
