TUCSON, Ariz. — An amazing image of a bolt of lightning that appeared to strike over a rainbow in Arizona has gone viral after the Tucson, Ariz.-based photographer who took the picture shared it on Facebook.

Greg McCown was driving on Interstate 10 with two other photographers when they encountered a microburst, he wrote in a Facebook post Aug. 8.

After parting ways with the other two, McCown went southeast toward a rainbow and stopped to take photographs. He wrote he had been trying to get a photo of lightning and a rainbow together in a single image for years.

“I was just trying to find a foreground without telephone poles or other junk in the way,” he wrote. “Found it just in time as this was the last bolt to strike before the storm dissipated into nothing.”

By Thursday morning, the image has been shared nearly 128,000 times while receiving more than 134,000 likes on his page.
