BOULDER, Colo. — A 40-year-old Virginia man died three days after competing in the Ironman Boulder triathlon on Aug. 2, the Boulder County Coroner’s Office said Monday.

The coroner’s office is investigating the death of Brian Godlove of Fairfax, Va., who died Aug. 5 at Boulder Community Health.

Results of the race show Godlove completed the 2.4-mile swim portion in 1 hour, 43 minutes, 58 seconds, and the 112-mile bike portion in 7:39:59. No time for the marathon portion was posted.

An autopsy has been completed, but the cause and manner of death are pending further investigation, the coroner’s office said.

A statement was released from Godlove’s family.

Brian Godlove was a beloved husband, father, son and brother who lived and loved life to the fullest, and reflected the very best of the human spirit. He will be profoundly missed, but eternally loved and remembered.  We are aware that the Boulder County Coroner is investigating this matter.  The family respectfully requests privacy as we grieve Brian’s passing.
