ARVADA, Colo. – An Arvada family is stepping in to help a struggling single mom.
Jennifer Pierson is a single mother from Englewood who works 80 hours a week to support her 10-year-old daughter and her mom, who is battling cancer.
With medical bills to pay, Pierson cannot afford Denver’s skyrocketing rental prices. Ten months ago, they moved into their SUV.
Jennifer’s Pastor recommended her to the Problem Solvers. After FOX 31 viewers saw her story, dozens called and emailed the newsroom wanting to help.
“My wife and I looked at each other. I looked at her and she looked at me and we went (yeah),” FOX31 Denver viewer James Laughlin said.
Laughlin said the story hit home because he spent a number of years homeless when he was younger. Now a homeowner with a wife and a son, he opens his home to those in need.
“The best thing about seeing them go is the thankfulness and the relief just knowing that somebody had their back,” Laughlin said.
Pierce and her family are still in search of a permanent home. Their church has started a GoFund Me page to raise money for a year’s worth of rent.
