AURORA, Colo. -- Parts of both southbound and northbound Interstate 225 will be fully closed overnight on Friday and Saturday for construction of a pedestrian bridge.

The bridge will connect the Florida RTD Station platform and the Medical Center of Aurora.

Southbound I-225 will be closed between Mississippi and Iliff Avenues. Northbound I-225 will be closed between Parker Road and Mississippi Avenue.

The closures will be on Friday night from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. and Saturday night from 8 p.m. to 10 a.m.

For more information on the closure and where drivers should detour, visit the RTD website.

According to a press release from RTD, work on the bridge will require additional closures in the future.

This construction is part of the 10.5 mile Aurora Line/I-225 Rail project which will extend light rail service through Aurora and to Denver International Airport. The Aurora Line will open in 2016.
