PARACHUTE, Colo. — At least eight vehicles were entered and three handguns taken from the vehicles between Monday and Tuesday, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office said.

The vehicular trespasses were reported in seven locations outside of Parachute and in each case, the vehicles had been left unlocked the night before, according to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office warns citizens to be wary and take precautions to make sure they are not the next victims.

To prevent further crimes, valuables should be taken inside the house each night, particularly handguns or rifles, and vehicles should be locked and if possible, left parked in well-lit areas.

“It is safe to assume that the perpetrators of these crimes will strike again in other neighborhoods or towns having had relatively good success in their first series of vehicular trespasses,” the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
