COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- A man was seriously injured Wednesday night after he lit a firework inside a vehicle and couldn’t roll down the window fast enough to toss it out, the Colorado Springs Police Department said.

Officers responded to Afternoon Circle and Dawn Break Loop about 9 p.m. on a report of a traffic accident when they found the man. Police said the firework was homemade.

"The device exploded in the male's hand causing extensive damage," police said in a news release.

The man was taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment. He is expected to survive.

Other devices were found in the vehicle and removed by the bomb squad.

No arrests have been made. The man’s name and age were not released.
