Woman flees hit-and-run accident with injured 9-year-old child

DENVER — A female suspect driver in a hit-and-run accident on Saturday fled the scene on foot with her injured 9-year-old child, Denver police say.

It happened in the area of West 13th Avenue and North Quivas Street.

Police say the suspect driver was in a red SUV heading westbound on 13th Avenue and drove onto the wrong side of the road, striking the victim vehicle.

The suspect driver then fled the scene of the collision on foot, taking her injured 9-year-old child with her, according to Denver police. Police officers located the suspect and injured child near the intersection of West 14th Avenue and Decatur Street.

The child was transported for serious but nonlife-threatening injuries.

Police had no word on the condition of those inside the vehicle struck by the suspect driver.

The suspect, Angela Jones, 29, has been arrested and jailed for driving under the influence, investigation of child abuse, vehicular assault and felony hit and run.
