DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. — Police recovered a body reported in a river in Waterton Canyon Saturday.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received the call shortly before 5 p.m. from a witness riding their bike along a trail that runs parallel to the river in Waterton Canyon.

The witness had to ride down the trail to a call box to report what they saw as a body floating down the river.

Personnel with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and West Metro Fire Rescue were assisting the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office to recover the body.

Police confirm the victim is deceased and are unsure as to who the victim is and from where the victim came, but they think the body may have come from the Jefferson County side of the river.

An autopsy will be done Monday and police are hoping to identify the victim by then.

Police did not suspect any suspicious circumstances.
