Driver’s body recovered after fatal car crash and fire

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — The body of a driver whose car crashed into a power pole and caught fire was recovered after an accident early Sunday morning.

The accident happened at North Harlan Street and West 6th Avenue around 4 a.m.

Lakewood Police say the vehicle left the roadway and collided with a post and a power pole, causing the vehicle to end up on its side on the southwest corner of the intersection.

The car was fully engulfed with flames when police arrived on scene according to Lakewood Police.

After the fire was extinguished, the body found inside the vehicle was determined to be that of the driver; no other occupants were found inside the vehicle, according to Lakewood authorities.

The driver’s identity is not being released at this time. Police say toxicology will be done to determine if alcohol or drugs were involved.

Investigators do not believe there were any other cars or people involved in this accident.
