DENVER -- The Denver Fire Department said a lightning strike was to blame for an apartment fire in unincorporated Jefferson County.

The fire forced evacuations at the apartment building on the 3600 block of South Depew Street just before 2 p.m. Friday.

"There was a boom, a big loud boom," said Brian Roleau, a neighbor. "It was pretty crazy. All the smoke. There was some big flames 10 to 20 feet high."

The fire was contained to one unit. The tenant wasn't home when lightning struck.

No injuries have been reported.

Evacuated residents were back home Friday night.
