WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. -- New details tonight in the death investigation of a 10-year-old boy with developmental disabilities.

Angel died Tuesday night after being found unresponsive at his home in Wheat Ridge. Wheat Ridge police tell FOX 31 Denver he lived with his grandmother.

Police said she was the one who called 911 Tuesday night when she found him not breathing.

Now she is one of the people police are questioning in his death.

Described as a true angel baby, a fitting title for a 10-year-old who always had a smile, named Angel.

Born with severe disabilities, cousins of the child tell us he never spoke a word – but the expressions on his face showed the joy he got from life.

That joy -- taken shortly after 911 dispatchers received a call around 11 Tuesday night.

“10-year-old male, not breathing and in the bathtub.”

Police attempted CPR but say Angel died at a hospital Wednesday.

“When a 10-year-old with multiple disabilities is found unresponsive, that is suspicious to us,” said Wheat Ridge Police spokesman John Romero.

Back inside the apartment investigators spent hours collecting evidence and are now looking into previous visits to the home involving both police and the Department of Human Services.

“For our police anytime there is a child’s death, regardless of the circumstance, its hard,” Romero said.

And while police question Angel’s caretaker, family tells FOX31 they want to shed light on Angel’s life, saying, “He was so incredibly strong and in return gave us strength.”

An autopsy conducted Thursday did not show anything conclusive on the cause of death. The Jefferson County Coroner says more tests need to be done.

No arrests have been made.

The family has set up a GoFundMe account for help with funeral expenses.
