COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- A heavy hail storm parted most of Colorado Springs Thursday afternoon, leaving some drivers stranded on I-25.

Depending on where you were in the city, hail piled up anywhere from 3-8 inches. Drivers stuck on slushy streets reported seeing quarter to golf ball sized hail.

Dents in vehicles reflected their estimates.

“Pretty much there was about eight inches of hail on I-25 and everybody slowed down,” said Kevin Kelley, who moved to Colorado Springs from California.

Kelley’s vehicle fell victim to the hail and eventual river it created on the highway.

“Car can’t run. It’s dead in the water. Literally,” he said.

Eventually the storm moved out as fast as it moved in. As of Thursday night, there were still heavy pockets of hail along the sides of some roads.
