DENVER -- University of Denver Campus Safety and Denver Police told students and faculty to seek safety late Tuesday afternoon. They received a report of a suspicious man carrying a weapon entering the Ritchie Center.

FOX31's Kami Carmann and Michelle Tuckner were at DU shooting a story with the lacrosse team. The team went inside when the alert was issued.

Some students continued walking on campus. They said they weren't sure how serious it was. A similar alert went out earlier this week but police quickly determined the person in that case was carrying a hockey stick, not a weapon.

Denver Police and DU Police officers were searching the Ritchie Center. DPD's Twitter posts said it was checking clear but the investigation was not finished.

A DU spokesperson said the school showed an abundance of caution. "We have to make sure our community members are safe."

Reports from the scene indicated officers had not found anything. Shortly after that Campus Safety issued a new alert about a white male wearing a red jacket carrying a handgun near the Newman Center.

Officials urged students and faculty to remain in safe locations while police investigated both locations.

No suspects were contacted and the all clear was given shortly after 4:30 p.m. Denver Police said they had no reason to believe there was a gunman on campus Thursday afternoon, but they take all reports seriously until they can determine otherwise.
