AURORA, Colo. -- Some answers Monday regarding a little girl abandoned at an Aurora restaurant on Sunday.

The girl’s family says it was all a mistake -- and that she is home safe and sound.

The toddler had been apart from her family for about seven hours and they didn’t realize it.

Aurora Police finally tracked down the two-year-old’s parents about 10 p.m. Sunday after posting her pictures on Facebook.

The staff at Los Toritos #2 at 9405 E. Colfax says the child was seated at a large table with a  group of five adults and four children.

When that group left about 2 p.m., no one noticed the girl was left behind because another large group with children sat at the same table.

“When the other family came, and the waitress was taking their order, she asked, 'What are you ordering for the little girl?’ ‘No, she’s not with us.’ We thought it was a joke,” says the restaurant’s owner, Ramona Castro.

But it was no joke.

Police came and picked her up.

They posted a picture on Facebook, and word got around to the girl’s family.

They picked her up from the police department.

The child’s aunt, Jakeline, says she and her sister, Melissa, miscommunicated.

One thought the other had the child, when neither of them did.

Jakeline says when she went to pay, her family left. She thought the little girl was with them -- and they thought the little girl was with Jakeline.

Jakeline says she spends a lot of time with her niece.

“She is like my daughter. She is very close to me and my boyfriend,” says Jakeline.

She speculates her niece was hiding under the table.

Castro says the little girl ate dinner with the second group of people that sat down at the table.

She says the child was calm and quiet the 40 minutes she was here alone.

Police say they are not charging the family at this time.
