One killed after vehicle plows under King Soopers semitrailer

LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- One person was killed after the vehicle he was driver crashed under a King Soopers semitrailer early Thursday morning, the Lakewood Police Department said.

The crash happened about 2:15 a.m. at the intersection of South Wadsworth Boulevard and West Jewell Avenue.

The semitrailer was traveling eastbound on Jewell and turning left onto Wadsworth when a car traveling southbound on Wadsworth ran a red light and went under the truck, police said.

The top of the vehicle was crushed and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

The intersection was closed for more than three hours but reopened just before 5:30 a.m.
