Man caught on video waving handgun during robbery attempt at Thornton Sonic

THORNTON, Colo. -- A man threatened an employee at a Sonic restaurant with a handgun during a failed robbery on Sunday, the Thornton Police Department said.

The incident happened about 3:12 p.m. when a man entered the restaurant at 3605 E. 104th Ave. and dramatically brandished the handgun in an attempt to take money. The attempt ultimately failed, police said.

The suspect is described as a white male, 25-35 years of age, 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, thin build,  light blond hair with some gray, blue eyes, last seen wearing a gray pullover hoodie, light blue jeans, white tennis shoes and a black wallet with a chain attached. He might be driving an SUV.

The subject is considered armed and dangerous.
