16-year-old faces multiple charges for collision that injured pregnant mom
THORNTON, Colo. — A 16-year-old boy will face three counts of careless driving and one of unlawful termination of a pregnancy following a Feb. 18 collision that injured a pregnant woman and two other people.
Leah Montgomery, 33, was walking with her mother and a toddler in a stroller near the intersection of Holly Street and East 138th Avenue in Thornton when a vehicle allegedly driven by the teen collided with another vehicle, which then struck the pedestrians. Montgomery, who was 22 weeks pregnant, lost her unborn baby.
No deliberate decision was made to charge the teen as an adult, according to the Adams County District Attorney’s Office. However, the juvenile court system has no jurisdiction over traffic offenses such as those in this case, meaning the case will be heard in adult court.AlertMe
