Grass fire forces evacuations in Teller County subdivision

TELLER COUNTY, Colo. — A grass fire forced evacuation of some homes in subdivision in Teller County west of Colorado Springs Tuesday afternoon. The fire was in the Highlands Meadow subdivision near Florissant at Teller County roads 11 and 1.

Reports said about 12 homes were under a mandatory evacuation order. Fire crews were were able to control the fire quickly. All evacuation and pre-evacuation orders were lifted Tuesday evening. It had burned anywhere between 30 and 100 acres by 6 p.m.

The area was under a Red Flag Warning for gusty winds, warm temperatures and low humidity.
