CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A North Carolina baby with a rare disease is celebrating his miracle birthday, according to WBTV.
The TV station reported Jude Peters celebrated his first birthday Saturday, a landmark for the boy whose parents once feared he wouldn’t survive outside the womb.
Peters is one of about 53 known people in the world with Rhizomelic Chondrodysplasia Punctata, an extremely rare disease with no cure, according to WBTV.
Jude Peters’ family has gotten support from Heather Anderson, a parent of another child with the disease. The families live near each other and have supported each other every step of the way.
“Pharmaceutical companies are not jumping on the boat to help 53 kids, so what we are looking for is a donor,” said Jude’s grandmother Darla Collins. “We have a little fighter, a little warrior … and we’re going to fight with him all the way as a family.”
