DENVER — Two deadly shootings happened three miles apart in northeast Denver overnight Monday.

The homicides are the latest to happen in what has been a deadly weekend in that part of the city. The shootings appear to be unrelated.

Details are limited, but police say one person is dead and one person is in custody in a shooting in the 3400 block of Race Street.

The victim died at the scene and there is no word on whether the suspect and the victim knew each other or what provoked the shooting.

Three miles away in the 3200 block of Pontiac Street,  27-year-old Jeffrey Starks was shot and later died at the hospital. Police are asking for the public’s help in tracking down the shooter. Neighbors say they heard multiple shots fired.

“It happened very fast,” Danny Studer said. “I don’t see how you can pull a trigger that fast. It was a muffled sound, like a motorcycle.”

Early Sunday morning, two people were killed in a shooting at an apartment complex near South Monaco Parkway and East Alameda Avenue.

One person died at the scene and another person died at the hospital. Police say there was a party in the area but it’s not clear if it was related to the shootings.

Because of the recent shootings in northeast Denver, concerned residents and police will hold a meeting Monday night to address the issue. It’s scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the District 2 police station.
