NEW DELHI -- A bride in India walked out of her wedding ceremony after her husband-to-be failed a math problem.

The bride asked: How much is 15 plus 6?

His reply: 17.

The groom's family tried to persuade the woman to return, but she refused, saying the man had misled her about his education.

After local police mediated with the families, both sides returned the gifts that were exchanged before the wedding, officer Rakesh Kumar said.

Most of the marriages in India are prearranged by the families of the bride and groom and couples rarely get to know each other before the ceremony.
