DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. — A driver was killed after crashing a car into a traffic pole late Monday night.

Southbound University Boulevard was closed between Dad Clark Drive and Venneford Ranch Road, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said. Only one lane of northbound traffic was open.

The driver was the only person in the vehicle. The accident happened about 11:45 p.m. Monday.

The traffic signal at University and Venneford Ranch is expected to be replaced by Monday afternoon.

The name, age and gender of the driver was not released. The cause of the accident remains under investigation, but the road was dry, and ice and weather do not appear to be factors.
