DENVER — For many carnivores, a switch to tofu sounds less than appealing. But Denver-based burrito chain Chiptole is betting they can win over meat-eaters with just one taste.

On Monday only, anyone who orders Chipotle’s “Sofritas” —¬†described as “organic, shredded tofu braised in chipotle chilies, roasted poblanos and a blend of aromatic spices” — can bring the receipt back later this winter for a free entree — Sofrita-based or otherwise.

Sofritas Monday participants can return anytime between Jan. 27 and Feb. 28.

The promotion comes shortly after the chain was forced to temporarily pull carnitas from some shops earlier this month. There was no indication that the two events were related.
