PUEBLO, Colo. — Pueblo police killed a home invasion suspect on Sunday after the man tried to flee and then fired on officers, the Pueblo Police Department reported.

About 11:48 a.m., officers responded to a report of two men, one of whom was carrying a handgun, kicking in the door of a home in the 1200 block of East 10th Street. Officers saw two men run out of the home and flee in a car, PPD reported.

A short chase ensued, until the suspect vehicle hit another car and came to a stop in the parking lot of Praise Assembly Church, police said. One suspect was captured immediately, but the other escaped on foot.

Officers followed the suspect east through a field, and eventually caught up. At that time, police said, “an exchange of gunfire” ensued, leaving the suspect dead.

The case remained under investigation.
