EVERGREEN, Colo. -- A man was killed Thursday after the grooming tractor he was riding fell through the ice on Evergreen Lake.
Rescue workers pulled Greg Henika, 67, from the chilly waters about 10:30 a.m. and he was flown by Flight For Life to St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood with unknown injuries.
Crews from Evergreen Fire Rescue and West Metro Fire dive teams worked to free the man, a Kiwanis Club volunteer who works at the Evergreen Lakehouse.
Authorities say Henika was grooming the ice for an upcoming charity ice golf event. He was using a tractor that had a plow on the front. Other workers were on the ice when the tractor went through the ice and they called 911.
The charity event was canceled in the wake of the accident.
Crews worked for hours to pull the tractor out of the lake.
