EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. — A Colorado State Patrol trooper shot a 55-year-old man early Thursday after the suspect allegedly resisted arrest, CSP reported.

About 12:53 a.m., the trooper tried to pull over a 1979 Ford pickup he reportedly saw making an Illegal U-turn from southbound Academy Boulevard onto northbound Academy near Interstate 25.

The trooper activated his emergency lights and siren, but the suspect ignored the siren for some four miles, CSP reported. The driver eventually did stop — in the lane of traffic on Academy near Shelly Street in Colorado Springs.

Upon contact with the driver, the trooper attempted to take the driver into custody. The driver resisted arrest, allegedly trying to assault the trooper. During the altercation, the trooper shot the suspect.

It was not clear whether the suspect was armed.

The suspect was hospitalized with serious injuries, while the 29-year-old trooper was checked out for minor injuries.

The incident remained under investigation. No names were released.
