DENVER — Police have arrested a suspect in a Jan. 7 double homicide.

Jamaal Marquiz Edwards, 29, is a suspect in the shooting at  an apartment building run by a homeless coalition in east Denver. He is under investigation for two counts of first degree murder, the Denver Police Department announced Monday.

Police responded to the 1400 block of Xenia Street about 2:40 a.m., where they found one man dead and a second man badly  injured. The second victim was transported to a hospital, where he later died.

Neighbors in the Xenia Village Apartments, which is run by the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, said they heard screaming before police arrived. Most residents in the building are homeless or retired, residents said.

The names of the victims have not been released.
