Pregnant woman killed in North Carolina crash; baby saved by trooper, nurse

GASTONIA, N.C. — A pregnant woman was killed in a two-car accident Tuesday morning in North Carolina.

Police told WSOC that Rebecca Hodge Williams, 24, was driving when her car crashed into another vehicle. Williams was due Jan. 19 and died at the scene.

The first trooper to arrive began performing CPR to keep oxygen to the baby until EMS arrived. A nurse who was driving by the accident stopped and helped with CPR.

The baby was delivered by cesarean section at Gaston Regional Hospital, then was transported to Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, N.C.

The baby boy is named Riley Andrew Williams, and he weighs 7 pounds and 5 ounces.
