ARVADA, Colo. -- Keeping your kids healthy could mean signing them up for a gym that's specifically designed for children.

Recreation centers like My Gym Children's Fitness Center in Arvada are becoming more popular as parents look for ways to get their kids off of the couch.

The Centers for Disease Control says childhood obesity has more than doubled in the past few decades and a lack of exercise is a contributing reason for that.

"They need their muscles stretched out. They need to learn how to use those muscles and develop them so they can start crawling and start walking," says Thomas Hobby with My Gym Children's Fitness Center.

Experts say children can start working out as early as six weeks old, but the average age of gym members is about two years old.
