DENVER -- At the rural Metro Emergency Communications Center, the fragile difference between life and death depends on each of the employees. Last week, they needed to save one of their own.
“Eva has a disease called relapsing polycondritis which affects the airways,” said co-worker Phillip Steele. “For 12 percent of people with this disease, their airways can collapse. She`s part ofthat 12 percent.”
Phillip shot a series of videos of his friend in the hospital where she’s been in the ICU.
“I wouldn`t know what to do without her - she means that much to me,” Steele said.
Eva has one Christmas wish.
“I want to be better and home with my daughter,” Anders said.
So does Phillip.
“Because eva has missed so much work, she doesn`t have the money to pay her bills,” Steele said.
And there are nearly $40,000 of them.
Eva isn’t certain whether she will get out of the hospital and is making plans for her daughter.
She's used to hearing sad stories every day at work where over the years she's saved countless lives.
Now she's hoping for a Christmas miracle to save her own.
