DENVER -- Motorists on 6th Avenue and Interstate 70 may have to deal with traffic delays due to construction this weekend.

Both directions of 6th will be closed at Sheridan Boulevard starting at 10 p.m. Saturday. Traffic will be detoured onto Colfax Avenue or Alameda.

Exits from both northbound and southbound Interstate 25 to westbound 6th Avenue will also close.

The closures will be in effect until Monday morning.

On Interstate 70, CDOT is going to open the expanded Twin Tunnels, now called Veterans Memorial Tunnels.  The eastbound tunnel was opened earlier this year. The new wider westbound tunnel will open this weekend.

To open the tunnel, CDOT will have to start shifting lanes beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday.  The work will continue overnight until 5 a.m. Sunday, CDOT said.
