Police investigate a shooting at the intersection of West 72nd Avenue and Raleigh Street in Westminster on Dec. 5, 2014.

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. — A 16-year-old has been charged as an adult in connection with a shooting at a Westminster park that killed one man and injured another.

Israel Jordan Maestas faces charges of second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a defaced firearm, possession of a handgun by a minor and carrying a concealed weapon.

Hector Manuel Castillo, 21, was killed and Aaron Castillo, 25, was wounded in the shooting at England Park on Dec. 5, said Sue Lindsay of the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

The affidavit in the case has been sealed. At the time of the shooting, police said there was a fight at the park between several people before the shooting. It’s not yet clear what the fight regarded.

When officers arrived, they found Hector Castillo dead and Aaron Castillo with a gunshot wound.

Police canvassed the area for suspects and found a handgun near the scene. Later in the day, police said they identified a person of interest in the case and arrested Maestas.

He remains in custody under a $100,000 bond.
