DENVER -- A fugitive couple from Colorado, wanted on child abuse charges, was in custody Thursday night after being found in Alabama.

Kathleen and Kenny Sanchez were charged with child abuse in 2012.

The couple was accused of malnourishment in the case of their 3-year-old. They had two other children who were also taken away from them. The three children have since been adopted and are healthier than ever before.

"Such a sigh of relief," says Amy Arellano, who adopted the kids. "I can relax and breathe, don't have to turn my back or see who's around the corner. I will probably sleep like a baby tonight ... after three years."

For the past two years, the couple was wanted nationally on the child abuse charges. A tip led to their arrest Wednesday night in Mobile. They are now awaiting extradition to face charges in Colorado.
