BENNETT, Colo. — The former treasurer of Bennett Elementary School has been formally charged with embezzling more than $15,000 from the local parent-teacher association.

Angelita Sue Ramos, 39, faces seven counts each of theft and forgery, 17th Judicial District Attorney Dave Young announced.

Ramos is accused of taking cash and checks totaling $15,119.21 from the Bennett Elementary School Parent Teacher Student Association between 2012 and 2013 while she served as treasurer of the organization. The charges allege that she forged signatures on checks and stole cash from fundraising events held at the school, including book fairs.

Ramos was arrested Tuesday. Her bond is set at $5,000.
