TEXAS CITY, Texas — The owner of four dogs that attacked and killed a neighbor’s beagle is suing the dead dog’s owners for up to $1 million, KHOU in Houston reported.

The Baker family said their neighbor’s four dogs — three pit bulls and a pit bull mix — broke through their fence to kill 10-year-old beagle Bailey.

“When I looked out the window, I saw my dog on her back, whimpering, and I saw two pit bulls attacking her,” Baker told KHOU.

Bailey eventually stopped fighting, walked to the side of the home and died. The owner of the pit bulls, Emerald White, tried to stop the attack. The Baker family said White came through the yard to get one of the pit bulls out, but to no avail.

But White’s attorney says it was Bailey who attacked White and that’s why she’s suing.

“The dog at that house attacked her, bit her, scratched her, injured her,” Paul Houston Lavelle told KHOU. “Her dogs attacked the beagle when the dog started attacking her.”

Steve Baker says White has been given 16 citations by animal control after the attack and believes the lawsuit is retaliation. Lavelle said White isn’t responsible for her medical bills.
