Adoption Day in Arapahoe County, Colo

ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. — Whenever you have families and kids together it’s a good thing, especially on National Adoption Day.

In Arapahoe County, Adoption Options held finalization ceremonies in Family Court. While there are 700 kids in Colorado and 104,000 in the nation hoping to be adopted, Thursday, nine families formally took custody of their new family members.

“We just love the process of allowing our new child to live with us for six months,” said Katie Bell of Denver.

The Bell family has two birth children, but Thursday, to go with their seven other adopted kids, they added number 10 to the fold. They even joked about having to adopt one more—who can play mid-field—to round out the family soccer team!

A single mom, Kathy Beaty was on hand to take home her 11-year-old, Alex Beaty.

“I wanted a child as far back as high school, but things never worked out. But now I have a daughter who I love so much, this is magical,” the new mom said.

And the Burnett family from Atlanta, Georgia also legalized their adoption of Fin Owen Burnett, who will become Bridget’s new number 1 little brother.

“This was a long-distance adoption, the birth mom is in Colorado Springs, but the wait was well worth the time and energy,” said Steve Burnett.

Friday the Denver Human Services Agency will see 33 families adopt 46 children as Adoption Day turns into kind of Adoption Week.
