DENVER — A lot of students struggle with math. Now there’s a new app that allows students to point their smartphone camera at an equation and have it it solved immediately.

PhotoMath uses the picture to scan math problems, solve them and show the steps needed to reach the answer. While the app was designed for students to check their work, some fear it will provide an easy way out of doing homework.

The app is available for iOS devices and Windows devices. The Android app will be released next year. MicroBlink, a text recognition company, has been developing the technology for mobile phone cameras the past few years.

The company is expected to expand its use of the text recognition technology in the future.
