Interception return for TD by Broncos’ Talib nets boxer Floyd Mayweather $1.4 million
LAS VEGAS — An interception return for a touchdown by the Broncos’ Aqib Talib with 15 seconds to play against the New York Jets made boxer Floyd Mayweather a huge winner Sunday.
To the tune of $1.4 million.
Talib intercepted a pass from Jets quarterback Geno Smith and ran it back 22 yards for a touchdown, allowing the Broncos to cover the point spread in a 31-17 win. ESPN reported that Mayweather bet $815,000 on the Broncos and laid 7 1/2 points. He laid -130 juice and collected $1.4 million at CG Technology sports book at the M Resort.
CG Technology vice president of race and sports Jason Simbal confirmed the bet to ESPN.
“Floyd didn’t watch the game here, but he certainly showed up shortly thereafter to cash,” Simbal said.
The pick-6 didn’t sit well at other sports books in Nevada.
“The place went absolutely berserk,” MGM vice president of race and sports Jay Rood said. “I kicked a hole in the wall. I’ll leave it as a reminder of my feelings toward Geno Smith.”
The Westgate and Aliante sports books told ESPN that about 95 percent of the bets on the game were on the Broncos.
“It was devastating,” Aliante sports book director Marc Nelson said.
