Aurora awards its first 21 retail marijuana licenses; sales can begin Oct. 1

AURORA, Colo. — The city of Aurora has awarded licenses to the first 21 stores that can begin selling retail marijuana in the city on Oct. 1.

In July, applications were submitted and each applicant attended a prelicensing meeting. In all, there were 58 applications for 24 licenses. The city conducted criminal background checks as well as whether the applicants met financial liquidity, staffing, security, air quality filtration, business and operating requirements.

The city will take new applications beginning Sept. 2 for three remaining licenses that are in Ward VI only.

The stores that can open Oct. 1 in the city are:

Lightshade (503 Havana St.; 5380 S. Parker Road)

Medicine Man Aurora (1901 S. Havana St.)

Mountain States Group, LLC (719 Billings St.)

Rocky Road Aurora (2224 S. Fraser St., Unit 6)

Starbuds (1408 Del Mar Parkway, Unit B2)

Sweet Leaf (15200 E. Sixth Ave., Unit 1)
