DENVER — Police have charged a woman with shoplifting and wrongs to minors after she allegedly left her young son alone in a car while she stole from a store.

Bridget McGovern, 32, was contacted by store security on July 14 after she was allegedly seen shoplifting from a shop in the 7700 block of West Quincy Avenue. McGovern had her 13-month-old son with her at the time.

Security allowed her to leave the store without calling police, but the suspect soon returned to the store and was again caught shoplifting, the Denver Police Department reported. This time, she did not have her child with her.

Security found the child alone in the suspect’s car, with the car’s engine running. Security estimated that the child had been left alone in the car for approximately 30 minutes.

Denver Police were then contacted and McGovern was arrested.
