ROUND ROCK, Texas — A 21-year-old college freshman is being hailed as a hero after he saved a suicidal woman from jumping off a freeway overpass.

The Round Rock Police Department said officers got a report that a woman had climbed over the concrete barrier on an overpass above Interstate 35, KVUE reported. But before officers arrived, Blake Pryor spotted the woman and went to her.

“When I first got there, she was leaning over the bridge just looking down,” Pryor told the station. “When I got there I leaned over the bridge with her so I could look her in the face, and let her know I was there.”

The woman told Pryor that no one cared about her, so he hugged her and offered to talk as long as she wanted.

“You could tell something was heavy on her heart, I’m not sure what,” Pryor said. “I just grabbed her. I gave her a hug, and I told her, ‘You know it’s not worth it.'”

Eventually, Pryor and the officers were able to bring the woman back from the edge.
