Aurora Police investigating homicide near Children’s Hospital

Police were investigating the scene of a shooting that left one man dead in Aurora on July 10, 2014.

AURORA, Colo. — Police were investigating a homicide that was reported late Wednesday night in the parking lot of an apartment complex near Children’s Hospital in Aurora.

Aurora Police said that a report of a shooting in the parking lot of an apartment complex at 1364 Xanadu Street came in just before midnight Wednesday.

When officers arrived on scene, they found an injured man sitting in the cab of a Red Dodge pickup. He was transported to a nearby hospital but died of his injuries a short time later.

“Witness stated that they saw a black male subject flee from the scene immediately after the shooting,” police wrote in a press release issued Thursday morning. “Patrol officers and two police K-9 units canvassed the surrounding neighborhood but were unable to locate the subject.”

The investigation was expected to continue Thursday, though police said they did not expect any additional information about the investigation to be released over the course of the day.
