DENVER — Police in Hampton, Virginia, have taken a cue from a Colorado band in their efforts to coax teenagers out of gang activity.

The Hampton Police Department posted to YouTube a video set to the tune of “Counting Stars” by OneRepublic. But instead of frontman Ryan Tedder, it’s one of the department’s officers doing the singing while he hangs out with area teens.

While the officer’s voice and acting chops aren’t quite professional grade, you’ve got to respect his enthusiasm, as well as the message: “Said no more violent summers, we’re all made of stars.”
