LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — An Iraq war veteran risked his life by crossing three lanes of traffic on a Missouri highway to rescue a beagle that was hit by a car.
FOX4KC.com reported the veteran, Aaron Schnieder put himself in between oncoming traffic and the dog and was able to coax the injured dog off the roadway.
He then waited nearly three hours in the rain, by the dog’s side, for a friend to show up. Schnieder made a makeshift stretcher and took the beagle to the Chipman Road Animal Clinic.
“At the end of the day, my combat lifesaver training kicked in, and I’m thankful I was able to use it to help him,” said Schneider. “Having served in Iraq, you see a lot of loss, which is one of the reasons I was determined to see him make it.”
The dog, since named Buster, was transferred to a the Blue Pearl animal hospital and is expected to recover.
Schnieder said he plans to adopt Buster once he leaves the animal hospital.AlertMe
