Tornado touches down in Las Animas County

LAS ANIMAS COUNTY, Colo. — A tornado touched down near the major southern Colorado city of Trinidad in Las Animas County Friday afternoon, according to reports.

KKTV was among the first to show images of the tornado, which they say were submitted by a viewer who saw the tornado touching down east of Fishers Peak in Trinidad.

A tornado warning was in effect in the area until 2:30 p.m.

Residents in the area were being advised to get into a basement or interior room within a house as soon as possible.

    Thank you, all, for sharing your photos.
    Wish that some had simply moved to a position where the view was not obstructed.
    Also, aim a little higher. No need to have half of the photo be useless foreground at the expense of showing more cloud above.
    If close enough, I would have tried to get into these mild tornadoes.
    But lightning is always a great concern.
