Three taken to hospital after vehicle plunges into South Platte River

A woman was rescued and taken to the hospital after the vehicle she was riding in crashed into the South Platte River on Sunday, June 1, 2014.

DENVER — Three people were transported to a hospital after the vehicle they were riding in crashed into the South Platte River late Sunday night, the Denver Police Department said.

A woman in the vehicle had to be rescued by the Denver Fire Department after she was trapped in the vehicle after the accident. She had the more critical injuries of the three who were transported to the hospital, a Denver Police spokeswoman said.

The accident happened about 10:30 p.m. on South Platte River Drive and West Mississippi Avenue.

The police spokeswoman said the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed but the exact cause is still under investigation.
