DENVER -- The Denver Broncos selected cornerback Bradley Roby with their first round pick in the NFL Draft late Thursday night.

Roby is 5'11" and weighs 194 pounds. He had eight interceptions in three seasons with the Buckeyes and many experts consider him an excellent tackler. Some suggested he was the best athlete among the cornerbacks available in this year's draft.

FOX31 Sports Director Nick Griffith reported off the field issues may have caused Roby to slip in a bit in the draft. "I just can't wait to work and make myself better," Roby said during a conference call after the pick.

Roby also says he's not a bad guy.

Broncos General Manager John Elway says the team has a tremendous locker room and Roby will get a lot of good guidance. He hopes Roby learns from his mistakes.

The Broncos, by virtue of finishing as the Super Bowl runner-up last season, have the second-to-last pick (No. 31) in the first round.

The draft is held at Radio City Music Hall in New York, with the first round Thursday.. The second and third rounds are Friday beginning at 5 p.m. MDT, with rounds 4-7 on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. MDT.

Besides the first-round pick, the Broncos also have the second-to-last pick in each of the other six rounds -- Nos. 63, 95, 131, 171, 207 and 246 overall.

Broncos general manager John Elway earlier this week wasn't tipping his hand at what the team might do. But it wasn't a surprise they went for a defensive player.

Hopefully they will go after Tri Archer in the 2nd round as a replacement for Holliday. Archer is the fastest man in the draft this year. He is also shifty and an excellent return guy and can be used as either a WR (slot receiver) or RB (like Dexter McCluster of Kansas City). A major moveable Chess Piece. Too good to pass up and allow SD or hated Raiders to grab.

I can see why the Denver Donkeys drafted this kid as he graduated with a 4.0 GPA in all his college level “You Know” classes. Bradley says “You Know” in an interview as much or more than John Fox. It’s going to be a long season.
