471 people arrested on DUI charges during St. Patrick’s Day weekend
DENVER — Police across Colorado arrested 471 people on suspicion of impaired driving during the St. Patrick’s Day weekend, the Colorado Department of Transportation reported.
From March 14-18, some 92 agencies cited hundreds of suspects for driving while drunk or stoned. That number is slightly down from last year’s, when officers arrested 486 for alleged DUI.
Police blame one death during the period on drunken driving, CDOT said.
“Each DUI enforcement period demonstrates that law enforcement agencies, whether large or small, rural or urban, are dedicated to working together to keep Colorado’s roads safe,” said Col. Scott Hernandez, Chief of the Colorado State Patrol.
The highest number of DUI arrests were made by the CSP (96 arrests), Denver Police Department (45 arrests), Colorado Springs Police Department (41 arrests) and Aurora Police Department (28 arrests).AlertMe
